Andra Hoffman for Assembly 2014, an Introduction

Andra Hoffman is running for the California State Assembly in the 45th District, which spans the northwest part of Los Angeles in the San Fernando Valley including the communities of Bell Canyon, Calabasas, Canoga Park, Chatsworth, Encino, Hidden Hills, Northridge, Reseda, Tarzana, West Hills, Winnetka and Woodland Hills.

Andra has been endorsed by the Glendale College Guild, AFT Local 2276, an affiliate of the California Federation of Teachers. She is a thoughtful democrat who will focus on issues that uniquely affect the neighborhoods in the 45th district such as higher education, transportation and jobs. Laws that affect women and children are also a major concern.

I strongly feel that we need more women elected to local and state offices.  Gender equality, reproductive justice and higher education are extremely important issues that do not get enough attention at the state level, and laws that affect women are all too often crafted and then passed by men.

Andra grew up in Van Nuys, attended Grant High School, Los Angeles Valley College, and California State University, Northridge.  As a single mom, Andra raised her children in the San Fernando Valley where they attended LAUSD schools.  She has worked for two non-profit organizations, including the San Fernando Valley Girl Scout Council where she was the Director of Community Outreach creating girl scout troops with paid leadership in housing projects and homeless shelters in the San Fernando Valley.  She earned her Master’s degree in Public Administration from Cal State Northridge while working full-time and raising two kids.

She has been employed at Glendale Community College for the past sixteen years and is currently a faculty member teaching California State and Local Government and Politics.  She is also a full-time administrator at the college serving as Director of Governmental and External Relations.  This capacity has sent her she to Sacramento many times on behalf of community college students.  She is an AFT member  (American Federation of Teachers).  She is a past member of the board of the YWCA in Glendale and also a past board member for AYSO Region 58.

Andra is THE ONE for the assembly post. She has enthusiasm and brings intelligence and experience to the business of legislation. Her communication style is thorough and grounded in facts. As a single parent, she learned much about life the hard way and it has served her well. She will not fade or forget why she represents you, and will put herself out to achieve for you.
